Service Activity: Goodwill donations

Goodwill is looking for Troops and families  to hold collection drives and mark their bags with their  troop numbers.  This is the time of year that they are in need, and had to reach out to us for support.  Especially before the cold weather sets in.  Let’ s see if we can help!
Thanks,
Anita

Council-sponsored Events for Girl Scouts

Our Council, Girl Scouts of Connecticut, sponsors hundreds of events for Girl Scouts around the state. Girls can participate in these activities with their troop or on their own. Activities vary from overnights at camp sites to STEM events, hikes or campfire events, just to name a few.
If your troop or its leaders don't have the time to coordinate meetings or badge session activities, Council sponsored programs are a great way to keep a troop or a girl involved in Scouting with little or no work except for a few email reminders. (Just remember, if you travel as a troop, a troop trip form ---and driver forms and volunteer paperwork for all adults -- are required, but if you all just meet at the event, you can skip the paperwork for a Council-sponsored event!).

Check out the events calendar at http://www.gsofct.org/participate/activities-calendar.php

You will need to login to register.

International Girls' Day Celebration at QU with Kappa Delta 11/11/2013

Volunteer Opportunity at Wicked Good 5K

They are looking for Girl Scouts to volunteer. Young scouts, and their parents have, for the past three years, poured water and given it to runners on the race route. They’ve generally come in costume, which adds to the fun of the event. Older scouts (teens) could help with food or in the family activities area.

If you or your troop members are interested in this volunteer activity, please contact Claire directly:

Record Crowd of 800 Expected at 4rd Annual
Wicked Good 5K to Benefit Local Kids and Adults

New Haven, CT – Road races and family-friendly activities will highlight The Connection 4th annual Wicked Good 5K Run, Walk and Family Festival. The races take place on Sunday, October 27, at 10:00 a.m. at New Haven’s Lighthouse Point Park.  JB Sports LLC, organizer of the New Haven Road Race, estimates a record crowd of 800 runners and walkers at this event.  Proceeds benefit The Connection, a statewide non-profit human services agency that serves 2,000 children and adults monthly in Greater New Haven through its behavioral health, community justice, and family support programs.

Awards are given to the top three female and male finishers in nine age categories: 12 and under; 13-19; 20-29; 30-39; 40-49; 50-59; 60-69; 70-79; and 80 and over.  Finishers in the half-mile non-competitive fun run, open to ages 12 and under, receive ribbons.  The best individual costumes for kids and adults, as determined by a panel of judges, receive awards. The first 600 registered participants receive t-shirts.

The event also includes food, drinks and activities, including games, face painting and free rides on Lighthouse Point Park’s carousel.  The entry fee for the 5K walk or run is $23 in advance, and $25 on raceday.  The cost for the kids run fun is $9 in advance, and $10 on race day.  Entrants can register at www.jbsports.com or in person starting at 8:30 a.m. on October 27.

“We created the Wicked Good Race and Family Festival because we recognize the charitable-mindedness of the running community,” states Peter Nucci, President and CEO of The Connection. “It’s our hope that runners, walkers and their families will attend the event, and even participate in costume, if they’d like.”  “Proceeds from the race will assist the many individuals and families who been gripped by poverty and prevented from progressing in life,” according to Nucci.

For information about sponsorships, please contact Beth Connor at The Connection: 860 343-5500 x2125 or at bconnor@theconnectioninc.org.

QSP Kickoff & FAQ

The QSP Program is finally here!

Today the girls in your Service Unit kicked off the QSP Program, and we know that they will be working toward reaching their troop and personal goals over the next few weeks. We all want to thank you for setting up and conducting trainings in your Service Units. We know there were several new pieces to the program this year and that you have already fielded many question. Many of you have also reached out to us with similar questions or were looking for additional resources. Please see below for some updates that should help you as we move forward in the program:

1.       Magazine/Nut Online Program Link. The link to register girls for the online program is now live at www.gsofct.org. We encourage you to also share the direct link when speaking with volunteers or parents/guardians. The link can also be accessed at: http://girlscouts.qspgao.com/connecticut and is on the bottom of the Spread the Word Business Cards. This week we will be sending the link out directly to all volunteers listed in nutE.

2.       Spread the Word Business Cards. This new tool is included in every girl’s sales packet. Girls can distribute the cards to customers after they have registered in the Magazine/Nut Online Program. Girls may include their name on the card (must match the name they used when registering) or their magazine store ID #. The ID# will be automatically assigned to the girl and will be seen on her page. An email will also be sent to the email address she registered with.  A copy of the email is attached here. A pdf of the business cards is also attached.

3.       The Top 25 Magazines List. A list of the 25 most popular magazines is attached to this email. Please feel free to distribute to your girls as a tool to offer magazines to their customers.

4.       Partnership with Save the Children. As you heard at training, QSP is partnering with Save the Children to donate chicks to impoverished families in developing countries. When a customer purchases three or more magazine subscriptions from an address booklet coupon QSP will donate one chick. This video (http://girlscouts.qspgao.com/chickens/) offers a great explanation about the importance of the program and how these donations will positively impact families and their communities.

5.       Additional Materials. I have additional girl packets, troop resources, business cards, and coloring program sheets still available. Please contact me if your troop is in need of materials.

6. Troop QSP Managers - If you are receiving this email and have not contacted me with troop QSP manager details, please do so immediately.

Thank you for your commitment to the QSP Program, and all the support you offer in making this a meaningful and successful experience for the girls in your community.
